Negative cloud-to-ground lightning

A type of lightning discharge where negative charge is transferred from the cloud to the ground. This is the most common form of cloud-to-ground lightning, accounting for approximately 90-95% of all such strikes. It typically involves a downward-moving stepped leader followed by an upward-moving return stroke.
