Negative feedback

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007494

A process within a system where the output of the system acts to reduce or counteract the initial change, thereby stabilizing the system. In the atmosphere, an increase in temperature might lead to increased cloud cover, which then reflects more solar radiation, causing a cooling effect. This mechanism tends to maintain equilibrium within climatic systems.
