Positive feedback
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008069
A process within a system where the output of a process amplifies or reinforces the initial change, leading to further deviation from an equilibrium state. In climate science, an example is the ice-albedo feedback, where melting ice reduces Earth's reflectivity, causing more solar absorption and further warming. This mechanism can accelerate climate change or other atmospheric processes.
