Positive discharge
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008068
A lightning flash that transfers positive charge from the cloud to the ground, originating from the upper, positively charged region of a thundercloud. This type of discharge is less frequent than negative discharge, accounting for less than 10 percent of all cloud-to-ground flashes. Positive discharges are characterized by a single, powerful return stroke and a longer duration, making them more likely to cause forest fires.
