Lightning echo
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006952
A transient, high-intensity radar return observed during thunderstorms, caused by the ionization and plasma channels created by a lightning discharge. This echo is distinct from precipitation echoes and appears as a brief, bright flash on radar displays, often propagating rapidly. It provides an indication of active electrical activity within a storm cell, aiding in the identification of severe weather potential.
