Echo overhang
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005252
A radar signature where a region of high reflectivity (strong echo) extends horizontally over an area of lower reflectivity or no echo. This often indicates the presence of a strong updraft in a thunderstorm, carrying precipitation particles aloft before they fall. It is a common feature associated with severe thunderstorms and potential hail.
