Permanent echo

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007866

A radar return signal caused by fixed, non-meteorological objects on the ground, such as buildings, mountains, or towers. Because these targets do not move, the echo appears consistently in the same location on radar displays, unlike transient precipitation echoes. These returns, also known as ground clutter, are identified and often removed from weather displays using Doppler filtering techniques that detect zero velocity.
