Reynolds number
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008567
A dimensionless quantity in fluid mechanics that predicts the flow patterns of different fluid flow situations. It represents the ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces within a fluid, indicating whether the flow is laminar or turbulent. A low Reynolds number indicates laminar flow, while a high Reynolds number suggests turbulent flow, with a critical value often around 2000 for pipe flow.
