Mean kinetic energy

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007160

The average kinetic energy of the molecules within a substance, which is directly proportional to its absolute temperature. In atmospheric science, this relates to the internal energy of air parcels and is a measure of the intensity of molecular motion. It is a key concept in thermodynamics and atmospheric dynamics.
