Inertial sublayer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006526
The region within the atmospheric boundary layer, immediately above the viscous sublayer, where turbulent eddies are primarily responsible for momentum transfer. In this layer, the mean velocity profile follows a logarithmic law, and the Reynolds stresses are nearly constant with height. This sublayer extends from a few millimeters to tens of meters above the surface, depending on surface roughness and wind speed.
