Laminar sublayer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006856
The innermost region of a turbulent boundary layer, immediately adjacent to a solid surface, where viscous forces are dominant and the flow is essentially laminar. Despite the overall flow being turbulent, this very thin layer experiences negligible turbulent mixing. Within this sublayer, the velocity profile is linear, and molecular diffusion is the primary mechanism for heat and momentum transfer.
