Laminar boundary layer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006855

A thin layer of fluid adjacent to a solid surface where the flow is smooth and orderly, characterized by fluid particles moving in parallel paths without mixing. Within this layer, viscous forces dominate over inertial forces, leading to a gradual change in velocity from zero at the surface to the free-stream velocity. The thickness of a laminar boundary layer increases with distance from the leading edge of the surface and decreases with increasing fluid velocity.
