Transition to turbulence
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009758
The process by which a fluid flow changes from a smooth, orderly laminar state to a chaotic, irregular turbulent state. This transition is often characterized by the appearance of instabilities and eddies as the Reynolds number of the flow increases. In the atmosphere, this can occur in boundary layers or within cloud formations, affecting mixing and transport processes.
