Transition layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009757
A region in the atmosphere or ocean where there is a relatively rapid change in a physical property, such as temperature, density, or wind speed, between two more homogeneous layers. Examples include the tropopause, which separates the troposphere and stratosphere, or the thermocline in the ocean. These layers often act as boundaries for atmospheric or oceanic processes.
