Tropopause inversion

A layer within or immediately above the tropopause where temperature increases with increasing altitude, rather than decreasing as is typical in the troposphere. This inversion layer contributes to the stability of the lower stratosphere, trapping moisture and pollutants within the troposphere. It acts as a lid on vertical atmospheric mixing.
