Multiple tropopause

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007456

A condition where the tropopause, the boundary between the troposphere and the stratosphere, is not a single, continuous surface but rather consists of several distinct layers or steps. This structure often occurs in regions of strong baroclinicity, such as near jet streams or frontal zones. Each tropopause layer represents a level where the lapse rate of temperature significantly decreases or becomes isothermal.
