Tropopause

The boundary layer in the Earth's atmosphere that separates the troposphere below from the stratosphere above. It is characterized by a sharp decrease in the lapse rate, where temperature stops decreasing with altitude and begins to remain constant or increase. The height of the tropopause varies with latitude and season, being highest in the tropics and lowest at the poles.
The upper boundary of the troposphere, usually characterized by an abrupt change in lapse rate from positive (decreasing temperature with height) to neutral or negative (temperature constant or increasing with height).
