Tropopause funnel
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009815
A downward protrusion of stratospheric air into the upper troposphere, characterized by a lowering of the tropopause height. This feature is associated with cyclonic circulations and can lead to the transport of ozone-rich stratospheric air into the troposphere. It is a region of enhanced vertical mixing between the two atmospheric layers.
