Tropopause fold
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009814
A downward intrusion of stratospheric air into the upper troposphere, often occurring in association with strong upper-level fronts and jet streaks. This process can bring dry, ozone-rich stratospheric air into the troposphere, influencing atmospheric chemistry and cloud formation. It is a mechanism for stratospheric-tropospheric exchange.
