Mixed-layer capping inversion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007328
A stable layer of the atmosphere, characterized by an increase in temperature with height, that forms above the planetary boundary layer. This inversion acts as a lid, suppressing vertical air movement and trapping pollutants and moisture within the mixed layer below. Its strength and height vary diurnally and seasonally, influencing air quality and cloud development.
