Mixed-layer venting
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007333
The process by which air from the atmospheric mixed layer is transported into the free troposphere above. This occurs when convective updrafts penetrate the stable layer capping the mixed layer, carrying pollutants and moisture aloft. It is a mechanism for vertical transport of trace gases and aerosols, influencing their atmospheric residence times.
