Venting mixed layer air

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009984

The process by which air from the planetary boundary layer is transported into the free troposphere above. This upward flux occurs through mechanisms like turbulent entrainment at the top of the boundary layer, organized updrafts within convective clouds, and forced lifting over terrain. Venting is a primary mechanism for distributing heat, moisture, and pollutants from the surface layer throughout a deeper portion of the atmosphere.
