Top-down/bottom-up diffusion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010816
A conceptual model describing how a scalar property is mixed throughout the convective boundary layer. Bottom-up diffusion involves the transport of a property from the surface upward by thermal plumes, while top-down diffusion involves transport from the entrainment zone at the top of the boundary layer downward. The relative contribution of each process determines the vertical profile of the scalar within the mixed layer.
