One-way entrainment process

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007688

A process where environmental air is incorporated into a rising buoyant plume or cloud, but there is no corresponding detrainment of plume air into the environment. This type of entrainment is often assumed in simplified cloud models to represent the mixing of ambient air into a convective updraft. It leads to a dilution of the plume's properties, such as temperature and moisture.
