Cloud-top entrainment instability
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004457
A theoretical mechanism that describes the destabilization of a cloud layer due to radiative cooling at its top and the entrainment of dry, warm air from above. This process can lead to the breakup of stratiform clouds into cumulus clouds. It is a factor in the evolution and dissipation of marine stratocumulus layers.
