Convective mixed layer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004673
A layer of the atmosphere, typically near the surface, where vigorous vertical mixing by convection leads to relatively uniform temperature, moisture, and wind profiles. This layer forms as solar heating warms the ground, creating buoyant air parcels that rise and mix with the surrounding air. Its depth can range from a few hundred meters to several kilometers.
