Turbulent transport
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009850
The movement of mass, momentum, or energy within a fluid system driven by the irregular, chaotic motions of turbulence. This process is highly effective at mixing and distributing properties throughout the fluid, significantly exceeding the rates achieved by molecular diffusion alone. It is a fundamental mechanism in atmospheric boundary layer processes and ocean mixing.
