Eddy diffusion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005271
The process by which turbulent eddies transport atmospheric constituents, such as heat, moisture, or pollutants, through a fluid medium. This transport mechanism is significantly more efficient than molecular diffusion due to the chaotic and mixing nature of turbulent flows. It is often represented by a diffusion coefficient that is orders of magnitude larger than its molecular counterpart.
