Turbulent diffusion
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009847
The process by which substances, such as heat, moisture, or pollutants, are spread through a fluid by the chaotic, irregular motions characteristic of turbulence. This mechanism is far more efficient at mixing than molecular diffusion. It is quantified by eddy diffusion coefficients, which are typically much larger than molecular diffusion coefficients.
