Turbulent flux
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009849
The rate of transport of a scalar quantity, such as heat, momentum, or moisture, through a fluid due to turbulent motions. This transport occurs as eddies carry parcels of fluid with different properties across a given surface. It is often calculated using eddy covariance techniques, which measure the correlation between vertical velocity fluctuations and fluctuations in the transported quantity.
