Eddy correlation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005269
A micrometeorological technique used to measure the turbulent fluxes of momentum, heat, and trace gases between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere. It involves rapidly sampling the vertical wind speed and the scalar of interest (e.g., temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide concentration) at high frequencies. The covariance between these fluctuations directly yields the turbulent flux, typically measured in watts per square meter for heat flux.
