Eddy accumulation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005265

A micrometeorological technique used to measure the net vertical flux of trace gases or aerosols between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere. It involves rapidly sampling air based on the vertical wind direction, accumulating samples from updrafts and downdrafts separately. The flux is then calculated from the concentration difference between the accumulated samples and the mean vertical wind speed.
