Eddy-stress tensor
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005277
A 3x3 symmetric tensor representing the flux of momentum due to turbulent fluctuations, or eddies, in a fluid flow. Its components, known as Reynolds stresses, are calculated as the time-averaged product of fluctuating velocity components. For example, the component τ_xy = -ρu'v' (where ρ is density and u', v' are velocity fluctuations) represents the turbulent shear stress.
