Tangential stresses
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009499
Forces acting parallel to a surface within a fluid, arising from the fluid's viscosity and the velocity gradients across the flow. These stresses represent the internal friction between adjacent layers of fluid moving at different speeds. In the atmosphere, tangential stresses are responsible for the transfer of momentum between the wind and the Earth's surface, influencing boundary layer dynamics.
