Wind stress
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010266
The tangential force exerted by the wind on a surface, such as the ocean or land, due to friction between the moving air and the surface. This stress transfers momentum from the atmosphere to the underlying medium, driving ocean currents and generating waves. It is proportional to the square of the wind speed.
