Newtonian friction law
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007533
A simplified model for frictional forces in fluids, stating that the frictional stress is directly proportional to the velocity gradient or shear rate. This law is often applied in atmospheric boundary layer studies to parameterize the drag exerted by the Earth's surface on the moving air. It provides a basic framework for understanding momentum transfer near the ground.
