Poiseuille-Hagen law
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010674
A physical law from fluid dynamics that quantifies the pressure drop of an incompressible, Newtonian fluid flowing in a laminar regime through a long, cylindrical pipe of constant cross-section. It states that the flow rate is directly proportional to the pressure gradient and the fourth power of the pipe's radius, and inversely proportional to the fluid's viscosity. While most atmospheric flows are turbulent, the law applies to airflow in the small-diameter tubes of certain meteorological instruments.
