Power-law profile

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008095

A mathematical relationship describing the variation of a quantity, such as wind speed, with height above the ground, where the quantity is proportional to a power of the height. This profile is often used to approximate the wind shear in the atmospheric surface layer, especially over rough terrain. The exponent in the power law varies depending on surface roughness and atmospheric stability.
