Power spectrum

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008094

A plot or function that describes how the variance or power of a time series is distributed with respect to frequency. In atmospheric science, it is used to identify dominant periodicities or oscillations within meteorological data, such as temperature or wind speed records. The analysis reveals the contribution of different frequencies, from daily cycles to long-term climate oscillations like El Niño, to the total variability of the data.
