Pressure spectrum

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010686

A representation of how the variance or energy of atmospheric pressure fluctuations is distributed over a range of frequencies or wavenumbers. It is calculated by applying a Fourier transform to a time series of pressure data. This analysis reveals the dominant scales of atmospheric motion, from small-scale turbulence to large-scale planetary waves, by showing which frequencies contain the most power.
