Fourier transform
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005741
A mathematical operation that converts a function of time or space into a function of frequency, revealing the underlying frequencies present in the original signal. It provides a spectrum of frequencies and their corresponding amplitudes. In atmospheric science, it is used to analyze wave structures, turbulence, and periodicities in meteorological time series or spatial fields.
