Poynting vector

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008096

A vector quantity that describes the direction and magnitude of the energy flux of an electromagnetic field. In atmospheric science, it is relevant for understanding the propagation of solar radiation through the atmosphere and its interaction with atmospheric constituents. Its magnitude represents the power per unit area carried by the electromagnetic wave, measured in watts per square meter.
