Shear vector

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008830

A vector representing the change in wind velocity over a specified distance or height. It quantifies both the magnitude and direction of the wind shear. In meteorology, the vertical wind shear vector is often used to assess the potential for severe weather, as strong shear can organize thunderstorms.
