Wind stress curl
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010267
A measure of the spatial variation in wind stress across a surface, particularly the ocean. A non-zero curl indicates a rotational component in the wind stress field, which is a primary mechanism for driving large-scale ocean circulation patterns, such as gyres. It is a key factor in upwelling and downwelling processes.
