Curl
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004806
A vector operator that describes the infinitesimal rotation of a three-dimensional vector field. In meteorology, it is frequently applied to the wind velocity field to quantify the local rotation of the air, which is directly related to vorticity. The vertical component of the curl of the horizontal wind is a key diagnostic for cyclonic and anticyclonic circulations.
