Local vorticity
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007020
A measure of the local rotation of a fluid parcel within the atmosphere, defined as the curl of the velocity vector at a specific point. It quantifies the instantaneous angular velocity of the fluid element. High values of local vorticity are often associated with intense atmospheric phenomena such as tornadoes and strong fronts.
