Kirchhoff equation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002103
A mathematical formulation used in seismic imaging to describe the propagation of seismic waves and to reconstruct subsurface reflectors. It is based on the Kirchhoff integral theorem, which relates the wavefield at one point to the wavefield on a surrounding surface. This equation forms the basis for Kirchhoff migration algorithms, which are widely used for seismic depth imaging.
