Equation of state
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001316
A mathematical relation linking the pressure, volume and temperature of a fluid, together with its composition for a mixture. In reservoir engineering, an equation of state is tuned to laboratory PVT data and then used to calculate phase compositions, densities and the amounts of oil and gas present at any pressure and temperature, including conditions close to the critical point and miscible conditions. The Peng-Robinson and Soave-Redlich-Kwong cubic equations are the most widely used, and viscosity is obtained separately from correlations such as Lohrenz-Bray-Clark.
