Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004435

A pressure-sealing device installed on top of the blowout preventer stack that seals around the drill string while it rotates. It diverts cuttings and drilling fluids away from the rig floor, allowing for drilling with a closed and pressurized annular fluid system, a technique known as managed pressure drilling. The rotating control device (RCD) uses a passive or active sealing element that wears with use and must be replaced periodically.
