Rotating control device
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004439
A piece of surface well control equipment that maintains a pressure seal around the drill pipe or kelly while it is rotating and moving vertically. Installed above the blowout preventers, it diverts annular fluids and cuttings through a flow line, enabling managed pressure drilling and underbalanced drilling operations by safely containing surface backpressure. Its internal sealing elements are consumable parts that wear against the drill string and require regular inspection and replacement.
